Today, I'd like to share my thoughts on artisans, craftsmen, and sake brewers. Typically, these people aren't ones who seek the spotlight; instead, they quietly communicate their values and perspectives through their creations. Their works embody decades of unspoken wisdom, accumulated experiences, and philosophies that are beyond words.
表舞台ではなく、静かに語りかける人々
今日は少し、作家さんや職人さん、そして日本酒を造る酒蔵の方々について僕が感じていることをお話しさせてください。
基本的に作家や職人、そして酒蔵の人々は、表舞台に立つ人ではなく、むしろ裏方の存在だと思っています。彼らは自分自身を表現するのではなく、作品や商品を通じて自らの価値観や考え方を静かに伝えています。言葉や文字では語り尽くせない、長年の経験から積み上げられた彼ら独自の感覚や思想が、作品やお酒には詰まっています
The Challenge of Capturing Essence in Words
Recently, there's been a growing trend to spotlight these creators, translating their intangible values and creativity into words. While it's wonderful that Japanese culture is gaining global recognition and inspiring the next generation, this attention can sometimes misrepresent their original intentions, inadvertently leaving artisans and sake brewers behind.
It's akin to a manga artist seeing their original story transformed into anime or a stage production, often feeling a disconnect. Therefore, whenever we write about these creators, it's crucial to carefully and accurately reflect their genuine intentions and sense of responsibility.
言語化されることの難しさ
最近、世の中では作家や職人の方々が持つ価値や創造性を言語化したり、強いスポットライトを当てたりする傾向が強まっています。それ自体は決して悪いことではなく、日本文化を世界に知ってもらい、次世代の人たちがその世界に興味を持つきっかけになるという意味では素晴らしいことです。ただその一方で、作り手の意図しない方向で作品やお酒が表現されてしまい、結果的に作家や酒蔵が置き去りになってしまうことも少なくありません。
これは、漫画がアニメや舞台になった際に原作者が感じる違和感にも似ています。作家や職人、酒蔵の想いをライティングするときには、彼らの想いや責任を丁寧に、正確に伝えることがとても大切だと思っています。

Rediscovering the True Nature of Ceramics
Take, for instance, Bizen pottery. Today, it’s usually displayed under bright lights in museums, but originally, these pieces were appreciated in daily life under subtle candlelight or moonlight. Only in such gentle illumination does their true beauty emerge. At SAKEBARO, we want guests to experience ceramics as people did in the past—by pouring sake into these vessels, holding them, and bringing them to their lips, thus fully appreciating their subtle beauty.
器の本当の姿
例えば備前焼の器は、現代では美術館で飾られ、強い照明の下で鑑賞されることが多いですが、本来それは日常生活の中、蝋燭や月明かりなどのほのかな光のもとで使われていました。その微かな光でこそ、本当の美しさが現れます。僕たちSAKEBAROでは、「昔の人が見ていた器の姿」を感じていただくために、実際に器に日本酒を注ぎ、手で触れ、口に運んでもらうことを大切にしています。

Similarly, with Japanese sake, our goal is simply to convey the authentic experience and heartfelt joy the brewers intend. Rather than seeking glamour or superficial appeal, we believe the true beauty of sake lies in experiencing the genuine emotions and values of its creators firsthand.
日本酒を通じて伝えたいこと
日本酒についても同様に、酒蔵が本当に伝えたい感動や美味しさを、シンプルにそのまま届けることを心掛けています。派手さや華やかさはなくても、作り手が心を込めた努力や価値観を、そのまま体験としてお客様に届けることこそが重要だと思っています。
